England defeated Germany 2-0 in their last group match in Batumi, Georgia, to make it three wins in a row and eliminate them from the European Under-21 Championship.

Holders Germany were eliminated from the tournament without a win after conceding two goals in the first 21 minutes from Cameron Archer and Harvey Elliott, giving England the group’s top spot with all possible points.

Germany may have been headed for an early departure, but they didn’t offer much of a threat as England continued to probe, giving Cole Palmer half chances after Elliott forced a superb save from Atubolu.

After some clever linkup play, James Garner came within 15 seconds of scoring a third goal, but the Everton midfielder was unable to direct his shot on goal from close range.

Three minutes from time, Finn Ole Becker’s strong deflected shot was palmed away by Trafford, who preserved another clean sheet and three consecutive 2-0 victories. This was Germany’s finest opportunity of the game.
